A few months ago, I started NIA dance, and wanted to share my experiences.
NIA is a meld of many therapies, but I would summarise it as a blend of dance, healing and martial arts!
It includes T'ai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, Jazz dance, Isadora Duncan Dance, Feldenkrais method, Alexander Technique and Yoga.
Even if I arrive for a class in a foul mood, within a few minutes, I am grinning and uplifted.
It is a good workout - despite dancing salsa twice weekly, I can be pretty stiff after a workout (and not just from the lycra-clad bodies around me!). As well as improving my moods, I think my body awareness has improved (something many other Salsa dancers could benefit from) and I think my salsa is more fluid and less inhibited than before.
On 7th August, I enjoyed an outdoor NIA session in Henfield. Bare feet earthed on the warm, damp ground, and the breeze energised our skin as we danced... See LeeAnn Mallorie's site (she and her partner helped to run the session).
I go to Jo Davidson's classes in Haywards Heath on Wednesdays and Annette Courtenage's in Hurstpierpoint on Thursdays.
