www.theblisspages.com - Pasteboard and Plastic XThe first Pasteboard and Plastic event in Saltdean was in November 2005. This was the tenth event, in November 2009, and as always, it was a fun day. See this index of all Pasteboard and Plastic events.
I remember that my car was in the garage for Pasteboard and Plastic IX, and I was a little delayed for this event as I just collected it from another repair (clutch, gearbox and lower front wishbone - see pre-xmas surprise). I arrived at 11:30, and left at about 23:30, after another full day's gaming.
I bought some Christmas presents, and Dorn, Days of Steam, and Monty Python Fluxx,
and collected some games I bought in July, Leader 1 and Carcassonne: New World.
Joseph bought me this game in Essen 2009, and I spent a long evening after its arrival punching out the bits and reading the rules. Today I finally got to play it.
The setup took quite a while, but not as long as explaining the rules! Luckily, Dave joined us halfway through my laboured explanation, and had played Shipyard a few days before, so we then sped up.
As the title hints, you construct ships, equip and crew them, and take then on a shakedown cruise. The mechanisms held together well, so once we got started, it all seemed very logical and the time seemed to fly past. In fact, time did fly past, and we played for about four hours. Subsequent games should be quicker though.

I didn't know much about this small box game, but the overview on the box looked interesting.
Some friends were lukewarm, but I decided to get it, and I'm glad I did. It was simple to play, but there is a lot of depth in the game, and it's quite short. I predict this will get many plays. I'll now refer to Age of Steam as Days of Steam Lite!

I haven't played this game before, and my headache (which started on Friday before work, and was still going strong on Monday) didn't help, but I thoroughly enjoyed this game.
It looked great, with a beautiful board, stone heads, hats and detailed plastic tribesmen.
Set on Easter Island, you craft giant heads, drag them to final resting places round the island, and adorn them with hats. The further you drag them, the more you score. I'll gladly play this again, though preferably without a bad head!

Poison is a short, fun, filler card game where you try to avoid garnering negative points for 'winning' cards.
Cards are placed in three piles and when the total on any pile would exceed 13, you have to take the existing cards. At the end of each round, if you have the greatest number of cards in any suit, you can discard them.
However, you can never get rid of poison cards and they count doubly against you.

It was great to meet old and new friends, especially everyone from Board Game Club, and I look forwards to Pasteboard and Plastic XI. Thanks again, Dick, for organising everything.
