I feel like a mushroom - I'm kept in the dark, and every so often someone comes along and throws a bucket of shit on me!
My organisation, along with many others, is shedding many staff in the near future.
Management want thirty percent of UK staff to go.
381 people applied (280 were needed, as contractors and temps will take the total number of losses to about 500) and I found out on 02 December that I had been accepted as one of 330 successful applicants. I will leave in March 2010 after just over 40 years in my first and only job.
The last few years have been very stressful, and I am very relieved to be able to leave at last, especially as the compensation is to be slashed for future redundancy programmes.
I do, however feel very sorry for the 49 people who applied and were turned down. I know how devastating this can be as I was rejected in 1994.
I had a party to celebrate 40 years in my one-and-only job on Wednesday 3 February 2010 for all colleagues, ex-colleagues, and work contacts! See 40 year party.
