The first Pasteboard and Plastic event in Saltdean was in November 2005.
This is the seventh event, in November 2008, and as always it was a fun day.
See this geeklist on BoardGameGeek.
I'd like to thank Dick, an irregular at our gaming group, for organising it so well. We had an attendance of around thirty again, and the event raised over a hundred pounds for the 42nd Brighton Scout Group.
I wanted to play some of the unplayed games in my collection and took a large bag with me, as well as one game to sell. In the event, I only played one of the games I took, and sold none. Ironically, the game that didn't sell was called Sold!.
However I bought Nottingham, The Market of Alturien, Genesis, Prophesy, Prophesy: Heed the Warnings, Mob City, R-Eco and Kragmortha. You might also like to look at my board games pages.
If you have any comments, or have found any errors or omissions, please drop me an email.
We played one round of Geschenkt. It's a fun, if random game.
players: Heidi, Jake, Andy, Mike, Tom
playing time: 30 minutes
Joseph brought this back from Essen for me, and I'm really pleased I got the chance to play it.
I thought it played really well. The dogs can go faster when they're balanced, but to turn you have to put a faster dog (or bigger card) on one side.
You also have to brake for corners - but do you have the right cards? If you collide with another sled or the bank, you dent your sled, which lowers your hand size.
players: Adrian, Jerry, Alastair, Gary, Tim, Mike
playing time: 1 hour
I hadn't heard of this game before, but swiftly realised it's a real find, and it will be on my wishlist.
You can play this game in two ways, as a basic game and the more strategic game, which we played. To gather flowers for bouquets to sell, you have to cover other player's flower beds, but you can't cover nine spaces, so the flower beds will partially overlap.
However, when you cover other beds, you lower opponent's total number of beds, and the person with the fewest beds goes next. If you create lots of beds, you may be waiting a long time for your next go. There are also ways to block opponents (gardeners and animals). Highly recommended.
players: Keith, Sarah, Mark, Mike, Adrian
playing time: 2 hours
I played this on a previous P&P, but we played with an expansion, and it was great fun.
I played Rachelle, and armed with my trusty hedge-trimmers, I made topiary of of the zombies - killing over twenty.
Eventually Rachelle was overpowered and I had to start again with another hero.
Luckily, I picked up a chainsaw and started cutting swathes through the ravening hordes. The game was very close, Dave - the Zombie player - had destroyed five of the six buildings he needed to win, but we prevailed in the end!
players: Ian, Tony, Dave, Tony B, Mike
playing time: 3 hours
The traditional end to a Pasteboard and Plastic event, this was as much fun as previous games. The villagers had learned their lesson after the drubbing they received in P&P VI, and sniffed out the werewolves more often than not.
I played a werewolf, seer and villager in the three rounds I played, before I had to rush off to help out a friend... See Pasteboard and Plastic V's Werewolf.
players: Dick, Jim, Tom, Jake, Tony, Ron, Heidi, Damon, Dave, Richard, Mike
playing time: 1 hour
I plan to attend Pasteboard and Plastic VIII in early 2009.
