www.theblisspages.com - shiatsu and seiki spring workshop
I was surprised to find out how different Seiki is from Shiatsu
On 22 April, I attended a shiatsu and seiki workshop at the Acupuncture Clinic, 143 Portland Rd Hove, run by Kitty Cava, and supported by hovenaturally collective.
The aims of the workshop were to offer spring cleaning for body, mind, and spirit, using Qi Gong exercise, Seiki and meditation.
We started with some Qi Gong warm-ups, involving gentle flowing movements combined with breathing. After this, Kitty gave us a demonstration of Seiki with a volunteer, Kirsten. I was surprised to find out how different Seiki is from Shiatsu.
Kitty supported Kirsten's arm and tried to keep their haras aligned - the hara being basically the energy equivalent of the centre of gravity. The hara is fundamental to many therapies and martial arts.
Seiki is not a therapy where the practitioner is working on a client - it is more a catalytic process where one is enabling or facilitating someone to work on themselves. Kirsten moved about during the demonstration, and at times twitched and moved around almost violently.
We then moved into partner work and experienced it for ourselves - both giving and receiving. After another demonstration, with me as the willing volunteer, we did some chanting.
I am familiar with some Sanskrit and Indian chants, but these mainly Japanese chants were new to me. Luckily, they were not too difficult, and were a nice way to round off the afternoon.
