The Radiance Technique

I went along to a "Tune in, tune up" session in Brighton, an introduction to The Radiance Technique®.

The Radiance Technique®, also known as Authentic Reiki®, has its roots in ancient Sanskrit texts, yet is not as widely known as Reiki. It is related to disciplines such as Transcendental Meditation, as both utilise 'cosmic energy'. There are seven degrees in this Transcendental energy system, and Catherine has studied to the sixth degree, one of a very few in the United Kingdom.

I know very little about the technique, so please forgive me if I get some of the jargon wrong, or miss out some salient points. This is to give a flavour of what I experienced and to help you form an opinion as to whether you may like to try it.

As I ascended to Catherine and Valentine's flat in the tiny lift with my trusty Brompton, I speculated on what the evening and the attendees would be like.

I was welcomed into the flat and we introduced ourselves. There were a few people at the second degree, but most of us were here to find out about the technique. Our professions varied widely, from musicians to publishers, from therapists to IT specialists. Some of us were trying to find ourselves, some just curious, but all were open-minded and prepared to give it a go.

Catherine took the neophytes one-by-one into another room and attuned us, a sensitising which enabled our hands to channel energy. At the same time, Valentine - an experienced orator and voice trainer - entertained the rest of us with his introduction to, and experience of the technique over sixteen years. I didn't feel different after the attunement, but I gather it affects different people in different ways.

We then got out the massage table and took our turns in laying on our hands and being the layee. It was an experience not to be missed - having up to twenty hands resting on or hovering above various chakras. Whilst I was lying on my back, I felt warmth and waves almost of weightlessness running up and down my body, but all too soon, it was over, and time to hand-over to the next lucky person. It was also interesting using our attuned hands to help the other participants.

Overall, what did I think? Am I about to join a seminar to achieve the first degree? I suspect that my current situation - being in the midst of a divorce, trying to buy a house and move,  whilst having a particularly busy time at work, along with several time-consuming hobbies (and websites take up a lot of time, too!) - means this is not the appropriate time for me. Perhaps an opportunity will arise once my life is a little calmer.
