about me...

I thought it might be fun to note down a few things you may not know about me...

I've tried to concentrate on areas not covered elsewhere on my site. I'll cross-reference when there's more information elsewhere. My full name is Michael John Bliss but I prefer Mike.

I live in the south of England and work in software & hardware testing.

I'm been married twice, am now separated, and have three children, an eclectic taste in music and am atheistic and hopefully aesthetic but definitely not ascetic. In September 2004 I bought a new house on my own and had to do some work to make it habitable (read about my new house). I love soaking in candlelit baths absorbing essential oils whilst drinking champagne with a friend. I hate brussel sprouts, bras and commuting!

As you may have noticed in photos of me, I do like bright shirts! I don't have as many now as when I was traveling a lot for work, but still have about 100.

things I've done...

• been on a helicopter flight. I did this on 23 May 2004 - see classic festival 2004 at Brands Hatch for more details
• hot-air ballooning
• flown a plane ... see my flight in a Cessna 150
• motor racing (mainly autocross). I used to do a bit of racing in my youth, as you can see in this action shot of my Yellow Peril!
• go-karting (and I've managed to roll one of these, as well as a car, on the track)
• ridden elephants in Thailand, camels in Bahrain and galloped across the Andes on a very large and recalcitrant horse!
• white-water rafting (in New Zealand, Peru, France and Thailand)
• archery
• snorkelling on the Barrier Reef and in the Gulf of Bahrain
• started to play golf (I've been given some lessons). See a good walk spoiled?
• water skiing
• wind-surfing (sometimes with trunks on!) and
• hang-gliding.

I've nearly fallen off a couple of mountains (in Scotland and Peru).

I enjoy squash, badminton, swimming, tenpin bowling, salsa dancing and cycling.

things I still want to do...

• ski (I'm hoping to go in 2006 - see sussex ski special for more details)
• go zorbing (see www.zorb.com)
• learn to sail a yacht
• drive a single-seater racing car (I'm hoping to drive a variety of exotic machines in the next year including Lotus, Noble, Jaguar and Lamborghini) and
• learn French and German.
